Contest rules and how teams work
A complete guide to contest structure, team composition rules, and gameplay mechanics.
Each contest requires you to build a team of exactly 11 stocks within a 100-credit budget. Each stock has a credit value — your team total must not exceed 100 credits. You must assign a Captain (2× multiplier) and Vice-Captain (1.5×). Teams are locked at contest start time.
- Exactly 11 stocks per team
- Total team credit cost must not exceed 100 credits
- Each stock has an individual credit value
- Captain gets 2× points multiplier
- Vice-Captain gets 1.5× multiplier
- Team must be submitted before start time
- No changes once contest begins
- 1Browse contests lobby and choose one
- 2Tap Join Contest and review rules
- 3Select 11 stocks within your 100-credit budget
- 4Assign Captain to your highest-confidence pick
- 5Assign Vice-Captain to second-best pick

How the scoring system works
Understanding fantasy points, multipliers, and how rankings are determined.
Points are calculated as: % Price Change × 10 = Fantasy Points per stock. Your total score is the sum of all 11 stocks after applying Captain (2×) and Vice-Captain (1.5×) multipliers. Leaderboards are updated based on end-of-day stock prices.
- Each 1% stock gain = 10 fantasy points
- Each 1% stock loss = -10 fantasy points
- No caps on max or min points
- Captain points are doubled
- VC points get 1.5× boost
- Scores based on end-of-day prices
- Highest total score wins
- 1Check stock prices at market open
- 2Monitor your stocks throughout the day
- 3Leaderboard updates with delayed market data
- 4Total score shows in leaderboard section
- 5Final scores calculated at market close
- 6Results published within 30 minutes of close
Captain and Vice-Captain strategy
How to strategically choose your Captain and Vice-Captain for maximum points.
Your Captain choice is the single biggest factor in your contest performance. The 2× multiplier means a Captain gaining 5% earns 100 pts — but losing 5% costs 100 pts. Choose high-conviction, high-momentum stocks.
- Captain has the highest risk-reward
- Pick Captain with strong momentum
- Events (earnings, results) boost volatility
- Captain from high-momentum sector works well
- VC should be your second-most confident pick
- Avoid defensive stocks as Captain
- 1Identify stocks with strong momentum or news
- 2Check for upcoming events (results, budget)
- 3Select highest-conviction stock as Captain
- 4Pick second-best performing sector for VC
- 5Ensure remaining 9 picks balance the risk
- 6Review credit budget and lock team before deadline
Understanding stock credit values
How credit weights work and how to build the best team within your 100-credit budget.
Every stock in the pool has a credit value based on its popularity and past performance. High-value stocks cost more credits. Building a team that stays within 100 credits while maximising potential gain is the core skill of StoxPlay.
- Each stock has a fixed credit value
- Total 11 stocks must cost ≤ 100 credits
- Premium stocks cost more but may score higher
- Budget constraints force strategic trade-offs
- Check stock credit values in team builder
- You can see last-session performance data before picking
- 1Open team builder in the contest
- 2Browse available stocks and their credit values
- 3Review last-session performance data for each stock
- 4Pick high-value stocks for Captain and VC
- 5Balance remaining 9 picks within budget
- 6Submit when total credits ≤ 100

Differences between contest formats and which suits your playing style.

- Mega Contests: large pool, many players

- Weekly: 5 trading sessions, cumulative score

What happens if a stock is halted?
How circuit breakers, trading halts, and exchange closures affect your score.
If a stock hits a circuit breaker or trading is halted, its last traded price is used for final scoring. In case of exchange-wide closure (market holiday, emergency), contests may be voided.
- Circuit-hit stocks use last traded price
- Halted stocks do not earn or lose more points
- Full exchange closure may void contest
- Refund issued if contest is voided
- Partial day contests use available prices
- Results always based on official market data
- 1Check if stock has hit circuit limit
- 2Note that score freezes at last traded price
- 3Monitor StoxPlay notifications for updates
- 4Check official market announcements
- 5Contact support if scoring seems incorrect
- 6Refund processed automatically if voided
